Pending final funding approval, the Department of Early Childhood/Childhood

Education at Niagara University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the field of special education. Interested applicants should have completed a doctorate in special education by August 15, 2012, have P-12 and higher education teaching experience, and show potential for scholarship and collegial collaboration. Additional desired qualifications include knowledge of federal and state regulations in special education, common core and State Standards, experience in high-need settings commensurate with the Vincentian Mission of the University, and extensive knowledge of issues related to identification and assessment. 

Niagara University is a Roman Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition, located in the Town of Lewiston in New York. Originally founded by the Congregation of the Mission in 1856 as Our Lady of Angels Seminary, it became Niagara University in 1883. The University is still run by the Vincentian Fathers. All of Niagara’s 25 presidents, including its current president, Father Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., have been Vincentian priests.

Niagara has 3,200 undergraduate students in 50 academic programs. Approximately half of the students are residents, while the other half commutes from the surrounding area. The college is known as a liberal arts school, but offers programs in technical and pre-professional disciplines as well. The College of Education is NCATE accredited and programs are offered on the main campus and in school-based settings in the Toronto area.
