SUMMARY:

Under general supervision the Head Women's Volleyball Coach recruits student athletes, schedules games and practices and makes recommendations for scholarships. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

·         Recruits student athletes for the women's volleyball program;

·         Instructs methods and strategies and coaches student athletes in the sport;

·         Makes recommendations for scholarships;

·         Schedules practices and some games;

·         Transports and supervises players while on the road;

·         Supervises assistant coach and performs a performance appraisal;

·         Follows and conforms to NCAA rules and regulations;

·         Responsible for providing all material relevant to the team (rosters with hometowns, high schools, etc. and schedules) in a timely manner before the beginning of the season, to the public relations office (sports information) so a recruiting/media pamphlet on the team can be prepared. Coordinates the manner in which team scores will be reported to the media for home and away games with public relations;

·         Faculty and staff are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information (including but not limited to: student personal information, student grades, employee personal information, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University.  If a faculty or staff member has a question about the confidentiality of a particular matter, he/she should consult their supervisor.  Any violation of this rule shall subject the faculty /staff member to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination of employment. ·         Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

50%      Instruct, teach and assist in the development of players during practices. Follow and      conform to NCAA rules and regulations.

30%      Recruit players for the following year and make scholarship recommendations.

15%      Actively coach the team during games.

 5%     Transport and supervise players while on the road. Provide accurate data to public relations about the team and its members. Coordinate score reporting. Consistently monitors all employees who report to this position and writes a minimum of one performance review annually for each employee at a time recommended by human resources.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 

1)         Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.

2)             Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

3)             Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them.

4)             Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.

5)             Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis.

7)           Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone. 

 8)             Ability to travel when necessary.

9)             Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.

10)          Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax.


ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, running, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, involve extensive wrist and hand movement. This position requires traveling. All individuals are required to be able to perform these tasks without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

1)   Bachelor degree in related field is required or high school diploma with a high level amateur or professional playing and/or coaching experience.

2)   At least one year of experience coaching volleyball at the high school, college or higher competitive level or at least three years experience playing volleyball at the college level or higher.

3)   Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
