TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Assistant Director of Residence Life|
Niagara University, a private liberal arts institution with a strong values-based Catholic and Vincentian tradition, is seeking a hall director responsible for the supervision of all aspects of a coeducational residential area. This 12-month live-in position will provide support services to students, supervision of community assistants, adjudication of student misconduct cases, and oversight of all educational, social and operational activities in the areas assigned. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life.

- Manage all aspects of hall opening, closing, health and safety inspections, facility management and housing operations within residential area(s) of supervision
- Provide supervision of Lead Community Assistants (LCA) and Community Assistants (CA)
- Serve as the primary judicial officer and manage judicial caseload within the residential area.
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of LCA and CA selection and training sessions
- Respond appropriately to students and/or parents on residential life issues in a timely manner.
- Oversee staff development, programming and supply budgets for the residential area.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours, balancing daytime and evening availability.
- Attend sector, department and area staff meetings, in-service training and individual meetings with the assistant director
- Serve in the on-call duty rotation along with other Resident Directors and Administrators for in-hall and campus-wide emergencies.
- Participate in assessment and other initiatives designed to improve the experience of residential students at Niagara University
- Promote the University’s enrollment and retention efforts by engaging in various admission and recruitment events throughout the year
- Provide assistance during summer and fall orientation for new students
- Assume responsibility for a secondary assignment within the Office of Residence Life such as in the area of housing operations, student and staff development, judicial affairs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
2. Successful time management and ability to multi-task.
3. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays; and to attend campus programs evenings and weekends.
4. Ability to provide objectivity, patience, commitment to diversity, be a team player, creativity and also be committed to student development.
5. Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: calculator, computer, keyboard, computer software applications, copy machine and fax machine.
6. Knowledge of computer software applications.
7. Ability to receive telephone calls and e-mails, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone and/or electronically.
8. Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle in the U.S. and Canada for the purpose of university business.
The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a typewriter and/or computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
- Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling in Student Affairs or a related field
- Knowledge of student development theory and application
- Experience in residence life and/or with supervising paraprofessional staff preferred
- Understanding and appreciation of the mission of a Catholic, Vincentian University
