SUMMARY:

The Help Me Grow Outreach Coordinator(s) will help young children (birth through 5) and families with developmental, behavioral, and/or learning concerns connect with existing community resources in Erie and Niagara Counties. The Help Me Grow Outreach Coordinator(s) will also be responsible for conducting all community outreach and events and for conducting developmental screening using developmental screening tools such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) or other approved screening instrument. Help Me Grow is a national initiative being implemented in Erie and Niagara Counties. HMG is an efficient and effective system, with a proven track record, that assists states in identifying at-risk children, and helps families find community-based programs and services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Coordinate and facilitate community outreach and events distributing information and materials to help parents, caregivers, service providers, Help Me Grow volunteers, and child health care providers become familiar with Help Me Grow, promote universal developmental screening and surveillance and access to community resources. This includes, but is not limited to, initial and ongoing outreach to community based programs including networking events, trainings, resource information collection and strengthening collaborate referrals within the community. 

Administer developmental screening assessments using developmental screening tools such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) or other approved screening instrument.

Maintain Help Me Grow child and family database records and data collection regarding outreach efforts, and preparing reports as required. 

Conduct presentations customized to audiences which may include pediatricians and other health care staff, child care providers, community-based service providers, and other community stakeholders. 

Attend and actively participate in Help Me Grow team meetings with the project director and provide input of program updates for Help Me Grow website as needed. 

Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University.  Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor.  Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. 

Perform other duties as assigned.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

25 % Administer developmental screening assessments using developmental screening tools such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) or other approved screening method.

20 % Assist families referred to Help Me Grow and maintain child and family database records and data collection regarding outreach efforts, and preparing reports as required.

5% Attend and actively participate in Help Me Grow team meetings with the project director and provide input of program updates for Help Me Grow website as needed.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1)    Knowledge of systems, organizations and programs that deal with young children and families facing developmental, behavioral and learning challenges;

2)    Knowledge of typical and atypical child development and special needs conditions;

3)    Knowledge in child development, evaluation and screening of developmental delays;

4)    Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to develop programs to support children and families;

5)    Ability to work independently, and with others, in designing and implementing outreach efforts in urban, suburban, and rural communities.

6)    Ability to have strong motivation and be goal oriented;

7)    Ability to have strong problem solving and analytical skills to identify root causes of gaps and/or barriers;

8)    Ability to recruit new partners, maintain reciprocal relationships and organize and lead formal and informal networking opportunities;

9)    Proven human relations skills and the ability to work with diverse populations in Erie and Niagara County;

10)Highly skilled in both verbal and written communications, with experience in producing high-quality written correspondence as well as proving effective presentations and interactive training;

11)Ability to work with pediatricians and/or service providers with early childhood programs;

12)Ability to work in linguistically diverse communities;

13)Knowledge Microsoft database systems and ability to learn new software applications.

14)Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis.


ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, and calculator, involve extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood, special education, child development, social work or related health or human services field; Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience in community outreach and resource patterning, preferably within the early childhood or early intervention area;

Experience in public relations and/or marketing preferred.

A valid New York State driver’s license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor vehicle. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle in Canada.
