SUMMARY:
The Skills Laboratory Coordinator will have responsibility for nursing students’ learning experiences related to the basic and complex skills of nursing science. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Teach the Nursing Skills Lab course sections associated with the core nursing theory courses equal to 3 credits per semester course load (eg., NUR 350, NUR 460).Monitor lab resources, maintain inventory control, and order and maintain consumable supplies, manual and equipment for the skills lab. Monitor students in the lab to ensure discriminate use of supplies while maintaining student access to resources. Assume responsibility for preparation and maintenance of skill laboratory, including supplies, computers, static mannequins and other materials needed to replicate a virtual care setting. Collaborate with faculty as needed to ensure preparation of labs and equipment based on course needs and scheduling. Assist with the development and implementation of clinical scenarios in skills lab in collaboration with simulation coordinator and other faculty. Participate in the planning and scheduling of the open lab time to ensure adequate available time for students to practice in the clinical skills lab throughout the semester. Assist with the coordination and the supervision of students to ensure that lab experience meets course objectives, and provide individual oversight to students for practice and / or remediation as requested by faculty or students. Assist with the preparation of documentation of, and tracking of student lab utilization. Act as a role model for students, staff and faculty in the areas of customer service, collaboration, communication, and general professionalism. Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with expertise and schedule. Attend scheduled faculty meetings.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

15% Conduct Formal skills lab instruction and competency assessment

10% Prepare and maintain lab and supplies

50% Supervise Open lab for students

15% Coordinate Skills lab activities with SIM Lab and class content

10% Participate in School of Nursing support activities (eg. meetings, workshops, planning sessions)


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Motivated, creative, team player who demonstrates a commitment to evidenced based practice with above average critical thinking and problem solving skills. Excellent organizational, intrapersonal and communication skills. Ideal candidate would have experience in acute care, teaching experience, knowledge of simulation techniques, proficient use of MS office and excellent knowledge and understanding of human pathophysiology. Strong skills in application of technology preferred 


ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position require a large amount of time walking around and standing, with occasional heavy lifting and some moderate lifting and carrying of supplies/equipment. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending and crouching, and other movements may be required on occasion. Some computer keyboard, computer software applications, and calculator skills involve extensive wrist and hand movements.  All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Current Professional NYS registered nursing (RN) license, unencumbered; Master’s degree in Nursing required; Proven recent experience in a health care setting.
