SUMMARY:

 

Niagara University – founded in 1856 – is a comprehensive private Catholic institution sponsored by the Vincentian community. Niagara University is located on the lower Niagara River in Western New York, and one of the hallmarks of the Nursing program is education that is consistent with the Vincentian mission of the University.

Niagara has a vibrant liberal arts foundation coupled with a number of highly respected professional degree programs, with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and student success. The Nursing program seeks an inspiring, experienced leader to serve as the senior administrator to lead the growth and evolution of the College of Nursing.The Dean of the College of Nursing will provide innovative and visionary leadership, will create a dynamic work and learning environment, and will articulate a vision and strategic plan for Nursing. The position offers a unique opportunity for a proven nurse leader to advance and champion excellence in nursing education in Western New York, across the region, and around the country. The Nursing program offers traditional and accelerated baccalaureate programs, and a BS completion program for registered nurses.Our teaching facilities include a state-of-the-art simulation center as well as a nursing skills lab.All nursing programs at Niagara are CCNE-accredited, and are recognized as being innovative, community-based, and student friendly.  

The successful candidate will have a passion for undergraduate and graduate nursing education, and an established record of quality teaching and service, as well as a successful research agenda appropriate for appointment as Dean. We are looking for a leader who can serve the needs of a growing, successful program that has taken on a prominent position at the university following the return of the undergraduate nursing program in 2012. In addition, the Dean must have demonstrated leadership experience; an ability to work in a collegial fashion; excellent interpersonal skills; a commitment of caring support of students; accreditation experience; and a willingness to provide leadership and oversight in developing and implementing graduate studies in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner, DNP, and Nurse Educators as a possible track in our Leadership and Policy PhD program).  

Prior academic leadership experience is strongly desired as is a broad understanding of the discipline of nursing and its potential future directions. We seek a candidate who is flexible, visionary, creative and energetic, who demonstrates an ability and passion for leading a faculty and staff to provide excellence in nursing education at Niagara, today and into the future. Additional qualifications include:

Additional Requirements:

·         Doctorate in nursing or related field required;

·         Master’s degree in nursing required;

·         Licensure eligibility for unencumbered licensure in NYS as a registered nurse required.

·         A demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain faculty who will add to the collegial and collaborative environment that currently exists is required;

·         Curriculum development experience required;

·         Organizational ability to plan and manage enrollment required;

·         A willingness to develop and facilitate strong relationships with external stakeholders required;

Preferred:

·         Experience in using distance education methodologies recommended;

·         Potential for external fund-raising recommended;

·         Leadership in coordinating classes and clinical rotations recommended.
